Extraction: Extract natural gas from underground reserves using drilling technologies.
Purification: Remove impurities and contaminants such as water, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and other trace elements. This process ensures the gas is almost pure methane before cooling.
Cooling Process: The purified natural gas is gradually cooled using a series of compressors and refrigeration cycles.
Liquefaction: As the gas cools, it transitions from a gaseous state to a liquid state, which reduces its volume significantly (around 600 times).
Cryogenic Storage: Once liquefied, the LNG is stored in specialized insulated tanks designed to maintain the extremely low temperatures required to keep the gas in liquid form.
Safety Protocols: Regular safety checks are conducted, given that LNG is stored under pressure and any breach can lead to rapid vaporization.
Transport: Due to its reduced volume, LNG can be efficiently transported across long distances, typically by specialized LNG tanker ships.
Regasification: Upon reaching its destination, the LNG is regasified. This involves warming the liquid and converting it back into a gaseous state, ready for distribution and consumption via the natural gas grid.
